BLANDFORD COMMUNITY HOSPITAL QUESTIONNAIRE

Thanks to all members and the public for your tremendous response to our request for support in completing a short questionnaire to provide timely and relevant information for the Friends and Hospital staff. We received three hundred and seventy four replies, including paper and electronic copies.

A very large proportion of respondents had direct or indirect contact with the Minor Injuries Unit over the last three years. A majority thought the service received was excellent or very good and provided a valuable supplement to GP surgeries and A&E units at district hospitals.

All the current services at Blandford were clearly valued and reflected high levels of personal satisfaction for patients, families and friends. Many mentioned the kind and caring service provided by staff who take pride in their work and consistently deliver a quality service. Where priorities were queried an overwhelming number placed the Outpatients Department, Day Surgery and Minor Injuries Unit in the top three slots, in that order. Not surprisingly all services listed attracted strong support and many of you emphasised that all were essential and must be retained if the Hospital was to continue to provide a comprehensive service. Many mourned the closure of Portman ward and wish to see the facility brought back into use.

In summary the Blandford Community Hospital is highly valued and appreciated by the local community who feel that services should be supported, retained, and where possible, extended; however a large percentage of patients experience travel difficulties in reaching general hospitals and foresee even greater problems in future.

THE FRIENDS ARE GOING GREEN

The large number who completed our questionnaire on line highlighted the increasing number of our members who have access to the Internet with all the benefits that may bring. The Friends want to widen the scope and use of our excellent website, generously provided by Hot Creative Media Ltd. As some may have noticed the site contains not only current events and items but also Newsletters and Annual reports going back to 2006.

All organisations, including charities, are encouraged to support ‘green initiatives’ and help reduce waste. The Friends want to reduce our use of paper and printing by offering members an ‘on line' service for Newsletters and Annual Reports. Please help us play a small part in protecting the environment by agreeing to read your copy on line. Publication would be notified via Email to all participating members advising them of the date of publication. Those who do not wish to participate will continue to receive copies by post or by hand.
